MEDICAL MICRO-NEEDLING

Medical micro-needling or Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT) is a non-ablative, all-natural cosmetic procedure that involves the use of a device that contains fine needles. The needles are used to puncture the skin to create a controlled skin injury. Each puncture creates a channel that triggers the body to fill these microscopic wounds by producing new collagen and elastin. Through the process of neovascularization and neocollagenesis, there is improvement in skin texture and firmness, as well as reduction in scars, pore size, and stretch marks.  This physician-led procedure improves a range of skin issues:

  • Reduces fine lines and wrinkles

  • Tightens and tones sagging skin

  • Improves scars and stretch marks

  • Reduces enlarged pores

  • Lifts and smooths sun-damaged skin

  • Evens skin pigmentation

One treatment takes about an hour to complete and although there will be a bit of pre- and post-treatment do's and don'ts, there is no down time and the procedure is well tolerated. The results are comparable to fractionated laser treatments, but the risk of scarring is significantly less, as we are not creating thermal damage. As such it is also a procedure that is safe on all skin colours. Medical micro-needling does not replace any home dermal rolling devices, but should be seen as a more controlled, more in depth and focussed medical treatment.
